Bassam Al selawi

Bassam and his wife Maysoon Masalha we both studied Fine Art in there native Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and spent many years teaching art while also undertaking custom art projects and experimenting with different mediums, materials and techniques. Years spent instructing Palestinian refugee children was an important educational experience for Masalha and Al Selawi as there were terribly few material resources for creating art projects; innovation and creativity Were vital and through this experience he Sharpened their skills further.
Mashalha began to teach art at United Nations Schools for Palestinian Refugees. She considers this experience as being one of the most rewarding of her career in education as she was able to realize in a profound manner how art can have a positive influence on both her students and the community. Masalha then became an art supervisor in the UN Education Development Center where she managed a team of art teachers, staged workshops and organized public arts projects that included music as well as visual art. Joining Art Hub as Manager of Art Craft provides Masalha with the opportunity to expand her perpetual interest in encouraging others to discover the artist within while she continues to create her own artwork.

Al Selawi strongly believes that visual art is a way in which each person is able to express himself/herself in a particularly beautiful Way and that each human being has the right to practice art in spite Of the level Of talent. At Art Hub Al Selawi is able to share his experiences and understanding of art in various capacities and how working together our world can be a better place. As Manager of Applied Art, Al Selawi is responsible for the design and installations Of art commissions from decorative to practical such as furnishings.
Together with the Manager Of Art Craft, Maysoon Masalha also developed a distinctive technique for shadow sculpture and their work is On display in a dedicated gallery at Art Hub.
Both artists Bassam Al Selawi and Maysoon Masalha Distinguish themselves on the art scene by creating a new and distinct technique, merging between painting, sculpture and between shadow and light, and between reality and fantasy by creating a fourth dimension to the three-dimensional sculptures.

By using Arabic calligraphy in most of the sculptures, to reflect the shadow that paints an image on the wall. Same image which consists in the mind of the recipient when reading these phrases. They used different materials and new techniques for playing in the light and the shadow.
If you take a look at one of the shadow sculptures you can be forgiven for thinking they’re some kind of installation; a beautiful carving of Arabic calligraphy mounted on the wall, a silhouette painted behind it and some drama added through the use of a spotlight.

When you realize that the spotlight is in fact casting a shadow, a shadow you may have wrongly presumed was a painted silhouette, the true ingenuity shines through. Or perhaps it doesn’t, literally speaking. ‘There are shadow artists around the world who do installations to create shadow images, but not as a wall sculpture, this concept is new… it’s their own creation.

‘We can say that our sculptures are 4D sculptures; the fourth dimension being the shadow of the words. It does reflect the same image that is printed in our mind when we read the words. Those images range from Muslim worshippers to men riding horses or camels.
The other image perhaps printed in viewers’ minds is what the price tag looks like. Each of their sculptures sells for between Dhs 500 and Dhs 1700 if it’s one of their unlimited runs of moulds. However, they also produce customized unique pieces and limited edition runs in bronze or silver and gold plating.

———-

Give form and life to my thoughts, visions and emotions, stone working to transform the actress to give her curves and variations of light.

Sculpting is an intuitive and sensual physical struggle to pass through the curves, a natural movement in an imaginary balance, act and work feed in reciprocity.

Why the stone?

Although the material is uncompromising and hard and compact appearance, the stone is the subject that brings me the greatest man by his fragility.

In development or upon completion, the work gives rise to interference energies: those of the stone itself, those of its sculptor, those of the viewer, and includes key.

———-

Richard Afanou Korblah       Artist      Benin

( updated link from october 2013 )

His next work is varied: the artist has more than one string to his bow and boundless inspiration.

The painting occupies firstly prominently in his work.

He painted icons, performs various tasks in monasteries (Abomey Dassa …), and participates in the Basilica of Dassa (mural, Stations of the Cross).

Then the young visual artist inspired by the Fulani people, marginalized in Benin and in other West African countries. He is particularly interested in one of their custom: a ceremony was both fun and initiation called « Goodja » Fulani language, this term means and flogging is a rite of passage for young men among adults. Flogging shows the transcendence of physical pain to the quest for an ideal. Thus, the artist’s sculptures express the suffering and joy, strength and brutality of these ceremonies. Through his work, Richard A. Korblah seeks to promote and share the tolerance and acceptance of others, the dialogue of cultures and the culture of peace. »   Extract

Critique d’art :

Alan HORSLEY Sculptor In Glass Scotland

Alan HORSLEY    Sculptor in Glass    Scotland

( updated link from  2014 / 07 )

Whilst studying towards an Honours degree in Sculpture at Edinburgh College of Art, Alan had his first exposure to glass as a creative medium during a short workshop led by Dr. Max Stewart in 2008. Fascinated by the long, rich history of the material and the range of qualities one could achieve from this single substance, Alan launched himself into exploring kiln forming techniques and the manipulation of glass colour and texture with metallic oxides. Alan’s efforts culminated in a First Class degree in 2010, his work going on to garner acclaim in the form of the CGS Glass Prize and the Stanislav Libensky Award in the same year. In 2012, having completed an MFA which saw him further enhance the nuance and scope of his glass colouring processes, Alan has moved to share a studio with Bruno Romanelli, where he looks forward to continuing his development as a sculptor working with glass. Alan’s figurative work has been exhibited internationally and is characterised by a consistent re-imagining of glass; in his hands the material becomes a fertile volume, within which the essence of countless substances can be evoked.

Born on the 27th of May 1971 in Teheran and living for over 15 years in Germany. Studied French language as a translator. I decided to start making art and finally to make it my profession. Telly van der Smissen Iranian-German artist, born 27/05/1971 in Tehran, is descendant of the family of artists Ali Karimi (Miniaturistmaler) and Nosratolah Karimi (director and sculptor). Because she grew up bilingual in the art world, she could her « Diplôme d’Etudes en langue française – Diplôme de langue française approfondi (DELF and DALF) » purchase in Tehran and work as a translator.
In the following years she made her longtime passion for plastic arts as a profession. She pulled away from the classical principle of art and followed their own inspiration to build in this way a relationship to the viewer. Their works show multiple dimensions and perspectives that give them vitality. This gives the viewer the desire to touch the sculptures on the screen.
Inwardness, femininity and politics are your main concerns. Her works express feelings spontaneous or deliberate thoughts, so take shape and tell their own stories. Among other things, you will find a selection of her luminous glass paintings, which are only caused by hand movements.
Under the supervision of Christian Soriano, the representative of the French government and experts in France and the international trade union « President de Drouot Cotation des Artistes Moderns et Contemporains » the works of Telly van der Smissen from the period of 2012, – 2014 « catalog Cotation Agréée » recognized and valued. In reference to the artist « Cotation des Artistes du siècle à nos jours XVè Drouot, 2013 edition of » you can find more works from the great masters such as Van Gogh, Claude Monet and Heinrich Vogeler.
But not content with Telly van began Smissen 2013, a further forming studying for Formative Arts at the University of Bremen, to gain further qualifications in addition to her career. Excited about new techniques and materials and of the history of art they still did not lose their clear direction. Your goal is to express through art various political and sociological aspects in a critical and explicit manner and to reflect:
« We should no longer consider art as hardly affordable pieces, but they perceive as Ambassador in terms of our social and political weaknesses. » (Telly vd Smissen)
Like last year, Telly van der Smissen will be exhibiting again this year in Germany and Belgium and also in France, Paris.
The exhibition in Paris in « Carrousel du Louvre » from 12 – 15 December 2013 is made possible by the jury and the President Michel King of SNBA « Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts ».

Artist plasticienne
Post Modern Hybrid

Borgfeld – Stopp – Paris
„Caroussel du Louvre“ 12. – 15. Decembre 2013

ARTCRITIC
Ms. Antic s ceramic sculptures are marked by recognizable characteristics of secessions aestetics, and here she is at the right pleace, their stylized figural expression. In those precisely shaped and elegant forms there is typical secessions mix well thought of, almost stern righchesness and tisturbed anxiety of capricious asymetry as if there is a mitting and coegsistense of to natures, cosmic and humen, pure and holly, beauty of astral form and sinful sense of alive body.

For the stylie of ms. Antic s sculptures one could say that they represent the soul of decadency in the subtles way of the meaning of this world.     Georg  Kadievitch
